It all started twenty minutes outside Spokane in Cheney, Washington. We met during our freshmen year at Eastern Washington University, where we were pursuing our bachelor's degrees. After living for two months in the dorms blissfully unaware that our soulmate was only a couple of doors down, the stars aligned and we ran into each other in the laundry room. One thing led to another and we enjoyed our first date at a jazz concert. After one week, we began dating on November 25th, 2019.
As our story goes, we met in November 2019, just five months before COVID shut our school down, forced everyone online, and kicked every student out of the dorms. We were living life knowing, but also dreading summer as we would be living three hours apart at their parent's houses for a couple of months before school started again. Well, unfortunately, summer came a little too early when students left and right started packing up their dorms and heading home. We were the last two people left on our dorm floor the week they forced everyone out. We were having the time of our lives playing house in a deserted college town. We only made it two months in COVID lockdown before Calvin's parents invited Alexis to move up to their house for the summer...before things went back to normal. Well, we all know how that story goes! Alexis quit her job back home, got a new job in East Wenatchee, Washington, and went back to school online with Calvin in the bonus room above the garage. That summer turned into a year and a half in East Wenatchee, where we will soon be married!
Alexis eventually got a job at Sherwin-Williams in Wenatchee and convinced Calvin to join the Sherwin team and quit his job at Highlander Golf Course (where our wedding will be!) so we could transfer stores to Spokane when college went back in person. That job security was just too tempting! We worked two minutes away from each other at different Sherwin-Williams for the majority of the time in Wenatchee when we moved in together. Normalcy soon came when school was announced to be back in-person in the fall of 2021. We continued to work at different Sherwin-Williams the rest of our time at EWU making many friends. Over the years of working in the paint sector together, many nights after long days of school and work revolved around paint conversation. Out of all things to talk about sometimes we would prefer it to be hours devoted to paint types, customers, and methods of application. As we have both moved on to different careers that our degrees have made possible, in forensics and real estate, conversations still sometimes touch on this very subject.
After graduation in December of 2023, we moved to South Bellevue and lived on Uncle Jimmy's Yacht for five months while Calvin continued his internship at O'Sullivan Properties as a Property Manager, eventually leading to his full-time position within the company as a Property Investment Manager. Alexis continued her job at Sherwin-Williams while mass-applying for jobs in her field. Life was great! One morning, on April 9th, Calvin asked if Alexis wanted to go out for dinner at Daniel's Broiler in Downtown Bellevue on the 21st floor. Calvin popped the question and Alexis said yes! Living in the big city, engaged, and figuring out the world with each other was quite thrilling. Calvin excelled at his position and is currently getting his real estate license on his own time while holding the fort down at his company. Alexis got a highly coveted position in forensics at King County Sheriff's Office in the Criminal Investigations Division as a Tenprint examiner and is loving every minute of her position. Now we live in Newcastle, Washington with a cat named Cheney, named after the very city we met in, thrilled with our chosen life partner and the small family we've started.
